Pilgrimage to the tomb of St. Carlo Acutis in Italy

Prior Fr David McGovern OP will lead the Shrines of Italy National Dominican Pilgrimage which includes a visit to the shrine and tomb of St. Carlo Acutis in Assisi.

This 7-night pilgrimage from 28th September to 5th October to Rome, Assisi and Siena will also include visits to the Sanctuary of St. Catherine of Siena and the tombs of St. Francis and St. Clare.

The tomb of St. Carlo is in Assisi's Church of Saint Mary Major. Since June 2022, the glass-fronted tomb enables public veneration of St. Carlo's enshrined remains.  The Church known locally as the Chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore is also the location of the Shrine of Renunciation, the pilgrimage site dedicated to the life of St. Francis of Assisi and commemorating the moment when St. Francis renounced his wealth and earthly possessions.

A short walk through magnificent Assisi brings you to the pilgrimage site of the Cattedrale di San Rufino di Assisi where a golden reliquary containing the heart relic of Saint Carlo is on display alongside a beautiful portrait of the young saint. It was in this Cathedral that Saint Francis and Saint Clare were baptised. The 13th-century marble baptismal font used is located in a side chapel of the Cathedral.
