 | St.Albert the Great : Born in 1193 , he was a Dominican theologian, he gained the name “Universal Teacher” for his vast works, wisdom and learning. He is considered to be the greatest German philosopher and theologian of the Middle Ages. He was the first among medieval scholars to apply Aristotle's philosophy to Christian thought. He was appointed Bishop of Regensburg but resigned after three years to return to teachin. He died in 1280. The Church honors him as a Doctor of the Church, one of only 33 persons with that honor.

 | St. Hyacinth of Poland: Born - c. 1185, Kamien Slaski. Died - August 15, 1257, Krakow, Poland. Venerated in Roman Catholic Church. Feast August 17. Patronage: UST-Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management, invoked by those in danger of drowning; Basilica of St. Hyacinth.

 | St. Martin de Porres: Born at Lima in 1569. His father, Don Juan de Porres, was a Spanish knight and his mother Anna was an Panama Indian. He entered the Dominican Priory in Lima and was placed in charge of the infirmary. He extended his care for the sick to the rest of the city. He was instrumental in founding an orphanage, a children’s hospital and other institutions. Later, as well as the duties he already had, St.Martin devoted himself to care for the slaves who had been brought to Lima. There are many wonders attributed to St.Martin and many more which through his humility will never be known. He died peacefully at the Rosary Priory in Lima in 1639. St.Martin de Porres - as in all Irish Dominican Churches St.Martin has a special place in the hearts of the local people.

 | St. Rose of Lima : Born in 1586 at Lima (Peru). From her young days she imitated the life of St.Catherine of Siena who impressed her deeply. She became a Dominican Tertiary and lived a life of penance and austerity. Blessed by many extraordinary gifts which she used to help the poor and anyone who sought her aid. She is the first saint who was American born. She was canonised in 1671 and declared Patron Saint of South America.

 | Pope Saint Pius V: Born in 1504 in the Duchy of Milan. He entered the Dominican Order. He was appointed Inquisitor of Como. As his reformist zeal provoked resentment, he was compelled to return to Rome in 1550 and was elected to the Commissariat of the Holy Office. He was appointed Cardinal Bishop of Sutri. He became Bishop of Mondovi. In 1566 he was elected Pope, promulgating the 1570 Roman Missal (Tridentine Mass). This form of the Mass remained unchanged for 400 years. He died in 1572.

 | Pope Saint Benedict XI : Born 1240 in Treviso. He served as Master of the Order from 1296. At the time of the seizing of Pope Boniface VIII at Anagni, he was one of only two cardinals to defend the papal party in the Lateran Palace itself. He was elected Pope in 1303, and excommunicated King Philip IV's minister and all the Italians who had played a part in the seizure of Pope Boniface VIII. After a brief pontificate of eight months, Benedict XI died suddenly at Perugia in 1304.
